Common questions
Answers about Pakistan tax, filing, calculators, and estimates.
Tax and salary
How is salary tax estimated?
Annualize salary, add taxable bonus and allowances, subtract only allowed deductions, apply the selected tax-year slab formula, then divide annual tax by twelve for an average monthly figure.
Does a higher tax slab apply to all my salary?
In a progressive schedule, the higher marginal rate generally applies only to income above its threshold. Confirm the exact year’s legal formula before relying on that general explanation.
Are calculator results official tax advice?
No. Results are estimates based on entered values and the included slab schedule. Verify with FBR or a qualified tax professional.
What is the difference between effective and marginal tax rate?
Marginal rate describes the rate on the next taxable rupee under the schedule; effective rate compares total tax with a stated income base.
Why can payroll withholding differ from my estimate?
Employers may adjust for bonuses, year-to-date pay, benefits, prior withholding, and payroll timing. Compare annual certificates and ask payroll to explain differences.
How do I compare salary tax across tax years?
Use the same annual income in both supported tax-year schedules. The site carries 2025-26 and 2026-27; both were checked against the FBR Finance Bill and enacted Finance Act for their year, and the 2026-27 year also drops the 9% salary surcharge that applied above Rs 10 million in 2025-26.
Does the salary-tax estimate include EOBI or provident-fund deductions?
No. Income tax, EOBI contributions, provident-fund deductions, and other payroll deductions are separate items. Use the employment tools with verified scheme inputs.
Filing and registration
What is an NTN?
NTN is commonly used for a tax-registration identifier. Registration, return filing, payment, and Active Taxpayer List status are separate records; check the current FBR service.
How can I check whether I am on the Active Taxpayer List?
Use the official FBR ATL lookup and ensure the identity and tax-year details are correct. Do not rely on an old screenshot or third-party claim.
Which records should I gather before filing?
Collect salary certificates, payslips, withholding records, bank and investment statements, and documents supporting any relevant income, asset, liability, or claim.
Does filing a return automatically make me an active taxpayer?
Not necessarily. Processing, timing, eligibility, and list-update rules matter. Check official FBR status after filing.
What should I do if a filed return contains an error?
Review current FBR correction or revision procedures and their deadlines. Keep the original acknowledgment and consult a professional for material or complex errors.
Salary and benefits
Are all salary allowances taxable?
Not automatically. Treatment depends on the allowance, facts, documentation, and current law. Ask payroll for the classification and verify the legal basis.
How is a bonus included in an estimate?
Add an expected taxable bonus to annual income, then compare the annual tax estimate with and without it to understand its incremental effect.
Why is take-home pay lower than gross salary?
Income-tax withholding and other items such as retirement contributions, insurance, loans, or employer-specific deductions may reduce cash received.
Are EOBI, provident fund, and gratuity the same?
No. They are different employment or benefit arrangements. Check the applicable scheme, official rules, employer statements, and tax treatment separately.
Can teachers or IT professionals claim a tax rebate?
Only if a current legal provision applies and its conditions are met. Verify the tax year, eligibility, and evidence with current FBR guidance.
Calculators and estimates
What does an EMI calculator need?
A standard fixed-rate estimate needs principal, annual rate, and a positive repayment term. Lender fees and variable-rate terms can change actual payments.
How is a standard EMI estimated?
The tool converts the annual rate to a monthly rate and amortizes the principal over the number of monthly payments; at zero interest it divides principal by payments.
What does the GPA calculator assume?
It uses credit-weighted grade points on a 4.0 scale. Your institution may use different grade conversions, repeat rules, or credit inclusion policies.
How accurate is the age calculator?
It counts complete calendar months and days in your device time zone, and ignores the clock time for the years/months/days figure. Elapsed weeks, hours and seconds are measured between the exact instants entered. A 29 February birthday is treated as arriving on 1 March in a common year, and the heartbeat figure assumes about 72 resting beats per minute.
Does the calculator store my salary?
No account and no server are involved: the estimate is computed in your browser and this project has no database. Your five most recent salary estimates are kept in this browser only so you can reopen them, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Zakat
What is nisab?
Nisab is a threshold relevant to zakat under the approach followed. The applicable value and asset rules should be confirmed with a trusted scholar.
Why does nisab value change?
A rupee value based on gold or silver can change as market prices move. Check the valuation date, basis, and current local guidance.
Is the zakat calculator’s default nisab official?
No. It is an editable illustrative value. Replace it with a current value from a trusted source and consult a scholar on eligibility.
Which assets and debts should I include?
That depends on the method and your circumstances. Ask a trusted scholar how to treat cash, metals, investments, inventory, ownership shares, and debts.
Is an online zakat estimate a religious ruling?
No. A calculator performs arithmetic based on assumptions and is not a fatwa. Verify nisab and consult a scholar.
Can I change the zakat rate and metal prices?
Yes. The calculator accepts editable prices, Nisab value, liabilities, and rate. Confirm which assets and debts count with a trusted scholar.
Are bank-profit tax and pension-credit rates pre-verified?
No. The tools ask for an editable rate or cap so they do not present an unverified tax assumption as current law. Check the relevant Finance Act and FBR guidance.
