This is not a claim of one national rate. Province, worker category, industry, and later notifications can change the applicable floor.
Where the wage floor lands on the tax table
A monthly floor of Rs 40,000 is Rs 480,000 a year. In both salary schedules this site holds, the opening band runs untaxed to Rs 600,000, so a salary at that floor carries no tax and sits Rs 120,000 below the point where the table starts charging. The reason is the band's own boundary, not an exemption written elsewhere.

- Crossing that line does not put the whole salary in scope. On the 2026-27 table the slice above Rs 600,000 is charged at 1%, and each later band applies its own rate only to the part that falls inside it.
- A labour department sets the wage; the Finance Act sets the bands. Neither moves because of the other, which is why this page keeps them side by side rather than merging them.
- Whether a return is obligatory does not follow from the wage figure alone: income, assets, spending and bank withdrawals are read together, and this site does not publish those tests.

Is there one national minimum wage?
The record on this page is a Punjab notification, read from the department page it links to. It does not speak for another province, another worker category, or a later notice, so no single figure is published here as a national rate.
Does a minimum-wage increase change my tax?
It changes the number the schedule is applied to. On both tables this site holds, the opening band is untaxed, so a salary inside it pays nothing; above that line the slice over it is charged at the next band rate. The calculator shows both cases for any amount.
Why does the 2026-27 row say the rate is unverified?
Because carrying a prior-year figure forward would turn a gap into a claim. The page leaves that gap visible and links to the department page where a current notification would appear.
