Take-home is gross pay less the tax this schedule produces. It is not a payslip: provident fund, social security and any other deduction an employer makes come out separately, under their own rules.

How this salary is taxed

Nothing at this level is close to a cliff, and the reason is the width of the band it sits in. The 29% band runs to Rs 5,600,000, which is Rs 1,400,000 of annual pay above Rs 4,200,000 — Rs 116,667 a month — before 32% begins and brings Rs 976,000 of fixed tax with it.

The same Rs 4,200,000 produced Rs 651,000 under the schedule 2025-26 used and produces Rs 570,000 under the 2026-27 one. That Rs 81,000 is 1.5 months of the older bill, and it arrived without the Rs 4,100,000 line being moved at all — what changed was the rate attached to it, from 35% to 29%.

What the 29% rate is actually applied to is Rs 100,000, not Rs 4,200,000. The table adds the Rs 541,000 that every lower band accumulated and then charges only on the excess above Rs 4,100,000, which is why the bill is Rs 570,000 — 13.57% of Rs 4,200,000 — instead of a much larger figure if the rate reached the whole salary.

A rise from Rs 350,000 to Rs 360,000 a month moves the annual bill from Rs 570,000 to Rs 604,800. Of the extra pay, Rs 34,800 goes to tax and the rest stays in hand; 29% is the share taken, and it is the same whatever the increase is called on a letterhead.

What this page states, and what it rests on

What to check on your payslip

  • Whether the figure the employer withholds on is the salary the table sees. Allowances paid monthly are part of salary, and an exclusion that looks like a benefit usually just moves the tax to a later line.
  • Whether the payslip total is gross or net of provident fund and social security. Those run under their own rules and are not the Rs 570,000 this page computes.
  • Whether a bonus or an arrearage lifts the year over Rs 5,600,000, where 32% applies to the excess on top of Rs 976,000.
  • Whether withholding still runs on the 2025-26 code. A slip coded at 35% takes more from this pay than the 2026-27 table asks, and the excess returns only through a filed return.

Frequently asked questions

How much income tax does Rs 350,000 a month attract in 2026-27?

Rs 570,000 for the year, Rs 47,500 a month, on an effective rate of 13.57%. Take-home shown against it is Rs 302,500 a month.

Was Rs 350,000 taxed differently in 2025-26?

It was: Rs 651,000 on the same Rs 4,200,000, against Rs 570,000 now. The whole of that Rs 81,000 comes from the band rate, 35% then and 29% in 2026-27.

Is the 29% rate charged on the whole salary?

No. It applies to the Rs 100,000 above Rs 4,100,000; everything below that line was charged through the lower bands, and their total is the Rs 541,000 fixed amount.

How far above Rs 350,000 does the rate change?

Rs 116,667 a month. The 29% band ends at Rs 5,600,000 of taxable income and 32% begins there with Rs 976,000 carried forward.
