Minimum wage

A wage floor set by the competent authority for covered workers.

Announced provincially rather than nationally, a minimum wage is a floor set by the competent authority for covered workers, so there is no single figure a Pakistani payroll reader can quote. The resource page in this repository records a Punjab Labour Department notification of Rs 40,000 a month for unskilled workers for fiscal year 2025-26 and states plainly that no verified 2026-27 rate is held there, since a later notification supersedes an earlier one. Classification matters as much as the year, because unskilled, skilled and contracted rates can differ within one province, and an effective date can trail the announcement. Two habits produce wrong answers: carrying last year’s number forward, and applying a provincial floor to workers the notification does not cover. Check the relevant provincial notification for the current year and category, then compare it against what your employer’s payslip actually shows.

Check the legal meaning in context and against the relevant tax year.
