Tax term
Tax rebate
A reduction in tax liability allowed by a specific rule.
A rebate reduces tax, which is a different line of the calculation from an amount removed from income, and the two produce different results on the same salary. Pakistani readers meet the word mostly in profession-specific claims, such as the recurring posts about teaching or information-technology relief. Those provisions are year-sensitive: they can be time-limited, conditioned on employer type, registration or documentation, or withdrawn, and this site deliberately does not assert that any profession rebate exists for 2026-27. To see the mechanics without assuming a rate, take the Rs 72,000 produced by the 2026-27 salaried table on income of Rs 1,800,000 and suppose a verified relief of Rs 20,000 applies to you. Tax becomes Rs 52,000 while taxable income stays Rs 1,800,000; a deduction of the same nominal size would instead shrink the income base and save less. Confirm the provision, its conditions and the evidence it demands with FBR for the year being filed.
