Tax term
Provident fund
An employment-linked savings arrangement funded under scheme rules.
Employment-linked and funded under a scheme’s own rules, a provident fund ordinarily takes monthly deductions from the employee and matching contributions from the employer, and it appears on the payslip as a line separate from income tax. Keeping them separate is the point. The employment tools here can total a fund’s contributions, but they add only what you enter and model no investment return, so a fund running through the twelve payroll months from July 2025 to June 2026 shows twelve employee deductions and twelve employer credits, and a statement above that total is not automatically wrong. Vesting, withdrawal, loan and forfeiture conditions sit in the scheme documents, and tax treatment depends on the fund’s status and the governing law. Common mistakes are reading a fund balance as available cash and assuming the deduction lowers taxable salary. Verify the rules with the administrator and the treatment with FBR.
