Tax term

Total income

The aggregate income under the heads recognized by tax law.

Total income adds up what you earned under the heads the law recognises, and FBR’s own basics material describes the set as salary, income from property, business income, capital gains, and income from other sources. Salary tax alone does not decide which schedule reaches you. Put Rs 3,000,000 of salary alongside Rs 1,000,000 under another head and salary is exactly three-quarters of the combined figure, which is the boundary the salaried table’s own condition refers to, so which schedule applies is a legal question rather than a preference. Each head carries its own allowances, exclusions and loss treatment, and an amount taxable in one head can be handled differently in another. The mistake salaried readers make is leaving other income out of the picture because payroll already deducted tax from their pay. Report every head, keep supporting records separately for each, and confirm the current year’s aggregation rules with FBR.

Check the legal meaning in context and against the relevant tax year.
